Hip hinge practice

Setup
Stand with feet hip-width apart, a small step in front of a wall, back to the wall. Put your hands on your hips.
Steps
- Bend your knees a little.
- Push your hips back until your buttocks touch the wall. Your chest moves forward.
- Keep your back flat.
- Push your hips forward to stand tall.
- Step further from the wall when this is easy.
Breathing
Breathe out as you move. Breathe in as you come back.
Where you feel it
A stretch in the back of your thighs.
Common mistakes
- Bending the knees instead of pushing the hips back.
- Rounding the back.
When to stop
Stop if you feel sharp pain, pain in a joint, dizziness or numbness.
